TERRAMERA AWARDED $241,500 BY BC GOVERNMENT TO DEVELOP MORE
EFFECTIVE PLANT-BASED REPLACEMENTS TO SYNTHETIC CHEMICAL PESTICIDES
VANCOUVER, October 12, 2018 – Today, Innovate BC announced that Terramera, the Vancouver-based leader in technology for clean food, has been awarded $241,500 through their Ignite program.
Innovate BC’s Ignite program funds technologies that will solve problems within the natural resources and applied sciences industries.
The grant will support Terramera’s work to develop and optimize more effective natural, plant-based replacements to synthetic chemical pesticides.
“This funding from the provincial government is an important investment in BC’s cleantech industry that will make a direct, positive impact on our economy and environment,” said Terramera Founder and CEO, Karn Manhas. “We appreciate all of Innovate BC’s work, and their support of our work and mission to use technology to create a world with affordable, clean food for everyone.”
Terramera’s grant will fund university collaborations with UBC and SFU, crop testing and simulated environments. Each of the companies receiving funding are addressing an industry problem with the potential for significant benefit to British Columbia. This work must also be recognized by a group of academic and industry members. The four recipient companies and their academic/industry members include Terramera with both Dr. Juli Carillo from UBC, and Dr. Zamir Punja from SFU.
